Liposomal Vitamin C is an alternative to the standard form of Vitamin C tablets (also known as ascorbic acid). Rather than the typical tablet, pill, or powder form, this type of Vitamin C delivers the vitamin inside tiny fat droplets.
The goal of taking Liposomal Vitamin C is to raise levels more effectively than other "standard" supplements. Even if someone takes a concentrated amount of Vitamin C in supplement form, plasma (blood) Vitamin C levels usually remain relatively low because only a small portion is actually absorbed.
What does Liposomal mean? Liposomes refer to a drug or supplement formulation that contains the active drug inside tiny fat-like particles called phospholipid bilayers. This form is generally more easily absorbed by the body and allows more of the supplement/drug to reach specific cells or areas of the body.
Liposomal Vitamin C was discovered in the 1960s. This novel mode of delivery offered a targeted therapy that could get nutrients into the bloodstream without being destroyed by digestive enzymes and acids in the digestive tract and stomach. Liposomes are similar to our cells, and the phospholipids that make up our cell membranes also make up the outer shell of liposomes.
The inner and outer walls of liposomes are made of phospholipids, the most common of which is phosphatidylcholine, which form a lipid bilayer. The bilayer of phospholipids forms a sphere around the aqueous component, and the outer shell of the liposome mimics our cell membrane, so the liposome can "fuse" with certain cells upon contact, delivering the contents of the liposome into the cell. This is the advantage of liposome delivery.
Liposomes use these phospholipids to encapsulate vitamin C inside and fuse with the cells responsible for absorbing nutrients, called enterocytes. When liposomal vitamin C is cleared from the blood, it bypasses the normal mechanism for absorbing vitamin C. It is reabsorbed and utilized by cells, tissues, and organs throughout the body, and is not easily lost, so its bioavailability is much higher than that of ordinary vitamin C supplements.
Simulates cell structure and is easier to penetrate cell barriers. The ratio of vitamin C and lipid content is also completely in accordance with the lipid ratio between human cells. Wrapped in liposomes, the structure is similar to the natural cell membrane, with strong affinity and high absorption rate.

1. Helps Boost Vitamin C Levels
Liposomal vitamins appear to be better absorbed in many cases than other oral forms of supplements, which means they can boost vitamin C levels to normal and healthy levels even when taken in small amounts.
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that works like an antioxidant. Your body can't make it on its own, so you have to get it from food or supplements.
The benefits of getting enough or more vitamin C from your diet and/or supplements include:
2.Higher Bioavailability
Liposomal vitamin C supplements allow the small intestine to absorb more vitamin C than regular vitamin C supplements.
A 2016 study of 11 subjects found that vitamin C encapsulated in liposomes significantly increased blood levels of vitamin C compared to the same dose (4 grams) of unencapsulated (non-liposomal) supplements.
3. Non-Invasive And Easy To Use
Taking liposomal vitamin C to boost blood levels is a convenient option compared to injections, which can be costly, painful, and sometimes risky due to contamination risks. This type of vitamin C can also be stirred into a liquid, making it a good option for those who have difficulty swallowing supplements. Two other advantages include that it can be adjusted in incremental doses and can be taken at low doses, which may limit side effects.
